Creating an experience in Rotorua
A birthday’s coming up, a corporate team building day is planned, a hen’s or bucks party is on the horizon – its time to plan.
There are great options in Rotorua to take your event from good to exceptional. We have 3 experiences you’ll love making it a day you and your group will never forget….
Rotorua Canopy Tours
The moment you step inside Rotorua Canopy Tours Head office on Fairy Springs Road you can feel the positive fun energy. The experience has started, and we haven’t even laid eyes on a D clip.
Paul and Courtney are our guides for the morning and after running through the important formalities, adding layers of much needed winter clothing, safety harnesses and equipment, we are off to Dansey Road Scenic Reserve in the company van.
Stepping inside this virgin forest is magic and our guides ooze a deep appreciation for this special place. It’s contagious. The beautiful native Tom Tip and North Island Robin visit us at close range and immediately you feel a deep connection with nature. Courtney’s eagle eye finds native fungi and the smallest of detail while also pointing out the giants of this forest.
After a small walk and climbing a few steps we’re standing on our first zipline platform and I can’t help but think how wonderful this experience would be for a special occasion.
They tell me about the beautiful marriage proposal they’ve had and the wonderful family celebration that had 3 generations together. You can see how Rotorua Canopy Tours would bring the magic to any celebration or event.
Hens and bucks parties, birthday’s and corporate groups would feel absolutely spoilt to experience this unforgettable tour and come away feeling connected and grounded. Grounded – a funny word to use considering you spend most of your time soaring through the trees and flying over native bush, but its an earthly appreciation like no other.
In 2008 James Fitzgerald had a vision to create an amazing experience while restoring a piece of forest to its former glory and inspiring those along the way. James – you have achieved something incredibly special. With entry funds going back into restoring this beautiful forest, it just feels like this continual circle of goodness.
Ask the team about how your group can support the work they do by extending your tour, rolling up your sleeves and getting your hands dirty to continue the good work they do
Escapade Adventure Games
After receiving your welcome email and list of instructions, it feels like the game has already begun. Download the app, head to i-site on Fenton Street, retrieve your game kit box and its definitely a feeling of ‘game on’.
You have the option to take this game as fast or as slow as you like (as long as you complete it the day you start it).
Enjoy the Government Gardens taking your time to learn about the history and the many landmarks on this site. Or play a fast game and give that recommended 90 minute time a nudge and out smart the Henchmen who have very different plans for the gardens.
Large groups would love this game as they can create multiple teams. With a point system included, it’s bound to get the competitive juices going. If that’s not enough, they can add the location of the other teams on your map, turning it into a real cat ‘n’ mouse game. For corporate groups wanting more out of their day, they have team building packages where an experienced facilitator can work with your group after the game on team skills you’re looking to build on.
The day we played we had kids as young as 9 years old in our group and when asked about their day they said “it was way more fun than I thought – can we play another game?” proving it would be great for birthdays and events of all ages
So many occasions, celebrations and events would love this very clever game with so many types of challenges that really get the grey matter working. Throw in a picnic at the end or head to the pub to continue your celebrations.
Dreams are often dreamt at the unlikeliest of times.
For brothers Keith and Eric, their moment was on the banks of the Whakatane River in the Te Urewera National Park after spending the day canoeing in the harshest of conditions. Having a hot tub, a cold beer, music and ya mates suddenly sounded like a great idea, and as the cold continued to creep in, the vision started growing.
Welcome to Secret Spot –beautifully nestled into the bush at the back of Waipa Valley in Rotorua. Once an old gravel car park, these boys have put the mahi in, and it shows.
12 hot tubs, each with their own name (personal favourite – Funky Dunk) and 8 free shinny dips – this is genius. Serving manuka roasted coffee and Good George beer and cider, there is nothing they haven’t thought of.
The moment you step into Secret Spot you can’t help but imagine this experience with your closest friends and family – and this is exactly what Keith and Eric have set out to create.
The Eddy Out Chill zone space is perfect for 25-30 people. Bean bags, tables, chairs, campfire and their licensed bar with the only thing left to do is enjoy your celebration.
There is another grassy area that boarders the banks of Revolution Creek – mix and mingle style, this area can cater up to 150 friends. And their newest venue area is aptly named Base Camp – a super large tent custom made and shipped from The Netherlands.
It’s the perfect venue for large corporate groups, a large family gathering or reunion, or a great decade party with mates. Add in the DJ or band, your own bar, large grass area and a selection of catering options and you have awesome memories right there.
Reflecting on my time at Secret Spot I try to think if they’ve forgotten anything – beautiful chilled water at my hot tub, a host button if my cider needs a top up, the stylish bathrooms and free storage locker, the night lights reflecting off the native bush, the environmentally friendly water treatment system, the burning rock and campfire, a variety of venue areas. Seriously, has the Secret Spot truly hit perfection?
Kolver brothers – you’ve nailed it. Wonder how long this spot will be secret for?
